Treasure Map

Melissa Dunn, DRE Associates

Purpose: This session is designed to create an opportunity for young women to begin to identify their personal strengths, gifts and talents as well as begin to explore how they connect spiritually and begin to excavate feelings of worthiness, hope, and inspiration through creative expression.

Objectives:

  1. To introduce the basic concepts regarding individual gifts/strengths/talents, spiritual connection and uniqueness.
  2. To provide an opportunity to creatively express and identify things that holds value.
  3. To provide an opportunity for the participants to discover themselves as lovable and worthy.

Activity:

Start with blank poster board.

Step One: Identify and draw your center. This is your connection to God, creator, and higher power. This is your essence. This is identified as a symbol or object (e.g. Angel, cross, star of David, Heart, Flower, Ocean, etc). The only stipulation is that it may not be another person. (Discuss what would happen if that person were no longer in your life).

Step Two: Discuss how we are all unique and have special gifts and talents. There are no two identical people. Our proof is that we all have a unique fingerprint. Mark your treasure map (X marks the spot) with your fingerprint.

Step Three: Using magazines, select pictures, phrases, and words that identify your special gifts, talents, and strengths. Focus on all the positive aspects of yourself. Include things that hold value and meaning to you. Fill the entire map.

Discussion topics for this activity (either during or after)
What does it mean to "love" you?
How can you love yourself if you don't know yourself?
What makes you loveable and unique?

Supplies:
